Classism in America?
by under74 ini recently had an experience at school where i felt like the one odd poor class in the room.
the conversation started with homelessness and then gravitated to poor people in general.
there were a lot of weird and false assumptions laid out like "those people walk hunched over" and " they" .....well you get the picture.

oh yes.
While America is the "great democracy" with "liberty and justice for all" there is most definately a class structure in our "egalitarian" society.
Perhaps not as rigid as the old world European standard; however it is alive and well in New York, specifically on Long Island and in Westchester. Money is the great standard; if you have lots --that is the ticket for admission. Once inside the club the distinctions become more subtle, and you must have some kind of "pedigree" to move "up":
" who are you related to? Any lineage to one of the great American fortunes? Vanderbilt? Morgan? Guggenheim? Whitney? Carnegie? Phipps?"
"are you descendent of any signers of 1) Declaration of Independence? 2) Constitution? 3) Bill of Rights?
"how did you make your money; what do you "DO"? some professions are regarded above others....
"are you celebrated in any way? Actor?, celebrity.? author? Major Politician?
It sounds terribly snobbish; and it is. But it is a fact of life in these parts.
Having survived the ravages of the Jehovahs Witnesses; I feel like I can take them all on ! ( and will, of course fall flat on my face)

Will the average age of Witnesses go up with time?
by JH in.
my parents go to a catholic church, and they say that the average age is in the 60's.. at the kh, the average age is about 30, if you calculate the age of the children too.. theoretically, the average age of witnesses should go up with time .
if less and less people become witnesses, the average age should go up, just like traditional religions....no?.

...unfortunatley, ignorance transcends the age barrier...

Do you feel bad for all the things you did as a JW?
by rebel8 in.
i do: shunning df/da'ers and others i was told were "weak" or "bad association"telling on fellow dubs to the elderscalling the rc church and being hostile/rude while demanding they remove my name as a parishoneranything and everything i did in field service and informal witnessingintentionally having a distant relationship with my "unbelieving" dad and other relativestelling my relatives i was planning on going to bethel, which broke their hearts (of course i never went, because it was a lie--my mom made me say that sh-t)sitting during the pledge of allegiance/national anthem or during prayers when attending funerals/weddings in other churches (imo it's intentionally disrespectful--obnoxious--why make the point of being in the room and then disrupt--they should just leave the room if they can't be polite)being judgementalparticipating in the kh grapevineobeying my jw whack mother's rules and all the other jw rules, and tolerating mental abuse--i feel guilty for not displaying basic self respect.allowing my mother to continue spanking me until i was 18, again which showed lack of self-respect (lol, on my high school graduation day, she tried to punch me and i held her hands back, said, "you are never going to hit me again.
" younger sibs clapped!

Tough day -- my mom died today
by cruzanheart inpoor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.

The Myth of Unconditional Love
by frankiespeakin in.
i here this a lot all the time.
i think it is one huge myth,,based on a self-biased view.
-
franklin J
In my experience, the ONLY unconditional love I have is for my children.
Our spouses are capable of pushing buttons to bring out the worst in us ( divorce rates prove this). The love for ones spouse is conditional on the dynamics of the relationship and how the opposite spouse returns the love.
I wager it would be difficult or impossible to love an abusive spouse. At some point there would be a reaction ending the relationship.
In my opinion, Children deserve our love no matter what they may do. I do not think I could ever not love my children ; the thought is alien to me.
As for the JWs banter about agape and all their christian love; well, we all know just how "conditional " that is.

thank you, Mbatoon
I hear you loud and clear across the pond.
Despite my patriotic American devotion, I hate to admit that with the far flung size of the great American continent and the varying accents from all corners; I fear that in about 150 years the American English ( in all its varying accents) will be a totally different language from what our British cousins speak.
....but I am sure that he JW language will remain the same; archaic but with some new light.....

In life, how do you walk?
by Tigerman in.
on a day to day basis, does it really make any difference to you as how you perceive others and how they perceive you?
if so, do you think this thought process can be altered, in one way or another, for the greater good?

I tend to think like Brooke....
I walk into every working day with an open mind and the anticipation that the sun will shine and good things will happen. I try to ALWAYS give the benefit of the doubt ( yes, even on rainy days) and look for the silver lining in every cloud.
My experience has taught me that things happen for a reason; some things I can change; some I cannot---and to accept that which I cannot change.
I try to always keep a smile and a positive attitude.....I may be living in a bubble, but from my perspective the view is just GREAT!

Are the UK JWs more faithful than the US JWs?
Why, of course. One only has to hear them speak to know that.....
but of course, as there is only "text" on this forum and no "verbal", we cannot hear them speak the "Kings English"......so some of the UK posters are questionable....
